Ticket Fines

New Orleans Traffic Ticket Fines

When you receive a traffic citation, the fines can total hundreds of dollars.  In addition to these fines, your insurance rates will rise if you pay your ticket and the offense is entered on your driving record.

Fortunately, you may not have to pay these traffic ticket fines. Keep in mind that paying a traffic ticket is an admission of guilt. Instead of automatically writing a check when you receive a citation, contact the experienced New Orleans traffic ticket attorneys at Bloom Legal.

Traffic Ticket Fines

The fines for a moving violation will vary depending upon the alleged violation.  New Orleans traffic ticket fines include:

  • A $116 speeding ticket for travelling between one and nine miles over the speed limit.
  • A $216 speeding ticket for driving between 10 and 14 miles over the limit.
  • A $241 speeding ticket for driving between 15 and 20 miles over the limit. If you exceed 21 miles over the limit, you will have to go to court to learn your fines and penalties.
  • A $25 ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. If a child in the car is not properly restrained, you will be required to appear in court.
  • A $110 fine for an equipment violation.
  • A $110 fine for disregarding traffic signs, impeding traffic or making an improper turn.
  • A $131 fine for improper lane usage.
  • A $161 fine for an improper brake tag or for failure to use reasonable vigilance.
  • A $181 fine for driving against traffic, failure to yield, tailgating, failing to obey law enforcement’s signals, improper starting or backing or not having a registration.
  • A $181 fine for running a stop sign or a stop light.
  • A $221 fine for careless operation or for passing a stopped school bus.
  • A fine of between $400 and $1,000, a possible driver’s license suspension and possible jail time if you disregard traffic signs, impede traffic or make an improper turn and cause serious bodily injury as a result.
  • A $5,000 fine, a possible one-year license suspension and up to a year in jail if you impede traffic, make an improper turn or disregard traffic signs and you cause someone’s death.

These are just an example of the traffic ticket fines you might face if you are accused of breaking driving laws. Certain other violations, such as a hit and run accident or driving without a license or proof of insurance, can require a mandatory court appearance.
